What Is The South Beach Weight Loss Diet?

So lets start out by defining what is the South Beach Weight Loss Diet. The South Beach Diet is a carbohydrate based diet, which people typically "get on" or follow because they want to loose weight. The creator of the diet plan is a cardiologist by the name of Dr. Arthur Agatston.

He spent time developing this diet plan, and he believes (and I do also for that matter), that right type of carbohydrate and fat, balanced with the right quantities, are how to achieve desired results from the south beach diet. People on the diet can choose from various low glycemic index carbohydrates, while reducing and restricting their fat intake to plant and seafood. It is always a good idea to stay fit and exercise while doing this diet, and any diet for that matter. Feel good about yourself, and be healthy.

The South Beach Weight Loss Diet is based around 3 different phases:

  1. Induction - The first fourteen days there are restrictions to no breads, rice, potatoes, pasta, baked goods, sugar, beer, wine, or fruit.

  2. Reindtroduction - Staying in line with phase 1, add in low glycemic index carbohydrates such as oats and other whole grains. Vegetables should be added in this phase also, along with some favorite carbohydrates. The purpose of this phase is to reduct yourself to your desired weight.

  3. Maintenance - In this phase strictly restrict any high glycemic index and also saturated or hydrated fats. This might be regarded as the toughest of the phases, as most people think they are done once they reach their desired weight, which could not be more wrong when doing any type of weight loss, especially The South Beach Weight Loss Diet.
